My internet has been restored!
I haven't posted in quite a while now, since I've recently moved to a new house and have been busy with packing, transporting, unpacking, buying new stuff, and the like. [I've had to pick up the slack left by my parents since they're super busy doing stuff either related to setting things up in the new place of cleaning out the old house, so I'm stuck cooking dinner, gardening, fixing stuff up/building things, and such. I really need to get in more Japanese study, not to mention get my travel papers, etc. in order....=_=']
I didn't have internet access for over a week, so I've got tons of catching up to do now that I have a connection. I admit I'm very internet-dependent so felt pretty cut off, since I get the majority of my news and entertainment online, not to mention using it for communication. By the way, on top of that I'm happy 'cause along with the internet I got fios tv so now I can watch TV Japan at home, which is awesome (even if it is just NHK, it's good practice ^_^;).
However, unfortunately I've become alarmingly accident prone these past few days...every single day I get a new cut or scrape or bruise or something, no matter how careful I am in trying to avoid it. In the past three days I've fallen down some stairs while bringing down a box from the attic, resulting in several bruises and a nasty scrape on my arm, gotten an annoying cut on my foot, and another one on my finger from a very sharp kitchen knife. This is becoming kinda depressing...I'm not normally a clumsy person and rarely get bad injuries or very many of them, so I wonder what's wrong with me lately...*sigh* The scrape on my arm is the worst though, it stings like hell when I redress it and put anti-bacterial stuff on...I won't go into detail, but it takes a 2x2 in. gauze pad to cover it. >_<
Anyway, on a lighter note, we had a barbecue a few days ago on our new grill, which was fun...we got it for my dad for father's day, and I'm proud to say I even assembled it myself. : ) But since we just moved in there was a lack of entertainment around due to no internet, tv, etc., but it turned out to be a good thing since I got to catch up on my reading. Right now I'm half-way through Murakami Haruki's After Dark...it's pretty interesting so far; like his other works it feels very dream-like and he does some interesting experimentation with the point of view. In this novel he delves into the urban nightlife in a way that reminds me of Murakami Ryu's work, but the way Haruki depicts it is very different, certainly less graphic and not filled with as much raw emotion...I associate Murakami Haruki's style and motifs with nostalgia, history, and reflection. I've read The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, Kafka on the Shore, parts of Underground, and Norwegian Wood, so that feeling is based on them.
Aside from reading, I looked through my concert collection and watched a few old lives by D'espairsRay, X Japan, and the GazettE that I hadn't seen in awhile. I also re-watched Luna Sea's reunion concert; it's such an amazing live...in fact, I think in some ways LS are even better than they used to be, for example in comparison to the 2000 Final Act live, because their stage setup and visuals are more impressive and sophisticated than before. In addition, Ryuichi's voice now sounds less nasal and stronger when singing live, perhaps because his time working solo allowed him develop his voice since he was doing a different style of music.
Although the chances are pretty slim, I really hope Luna Sea performs again sometime either this year or the beginning of next, since I'll be in Japan and might be able to actually see them in person (for me it'd probably be a once in a lifetime experience...I'm almost a decade too late). But they've only played their one-time reunion concert and the hide Memorial Summit, which were special occasions, so it's extremely unlikely.
